Instructions on how to install Wordpress (using Fantastico De Luxe)

This guide details the process of installing Wordpress using Fantastico De Luxe

First a small bit of context: Fantastico De Luxe is a product that works hand-in-hand with cPanel to bring you "click-to-install" software packages like Wordpress. It's not made by the same people who make cPanel but they're often coupled.

Onward with the instructions:

  • Login to cPanel
  • Under the "Software / Services" header, there's an icon of a blue smiley face Image:fantastico.gif labeled Fantastico De Luxe - click that guy.
  • That will bring you into the Fantastico section where you can install or uninstall various packages
  • Click on "Wordpress" which is the 3rd item under the "Blogs" heading on the left side (pretty near the top)
  • Click "New Installation" which is underlined and blue and part of this block of text:
   New Installation (2.8.6)
Disk space required: 9.03 MB
Disk space available: unlimited MB

(Note: The text will vary depending on the latest version)
  • The next page asks you to provide some details for the installation:
  1. Select your domain from the drop down menu
  2. Directory: If you want it to be available at http://yourdomain.com/ (the root of your site), just leave the field blank. If you want something like http://yourdomain.com/blog/, just enter "blog", with no slashes or quotes or anything. The directory should NOT exist, it will be automatically created for you. If you do decide to install it in the root of your site, be sure you've backed up any content that resides there currently, as it may be overwritten.
  3. Admin username and password: this creates an administrative login that you will use to login to the admin area for Wordpress (which is different from cPanel, and will be specific to Wordpress alone)
  4. Everything under the "Base Configuration" header can be configured to your liking - the options have no functional bearing on the app.
  5. When you're ready click "Install Wordpress"
  6. On the next page, click "Finish Installation"

That's it! The next page will give you a summary of the installation details you chose, recapping your login/password and gives you a link to the admin section where you can get started.
