Using SSL (https) with your EcoSnap hosted web site
|
SSL (Secure Sockets Layers) encryption is crucial for E-commerce applications (such as processing credit card transactions) and any other web based activity that you want to protect from eavesdropping, tampering or forgery.
EcoSnap provides two different methods for using SSL with your website(s).
- Use our Shared SSL Certificate for FREE (recommended method)
EcoSnap allows for all customers to use our shared SSL certificate at no additional cost. This allows you to immediately provide your visitors with 'https' access to your site. Upon activation with EcoSnap, your account automatically has access to the shared SSL certificate. There's no need for any additional setup or configuration to begin using SSL with this method.
To use our shared SSL certificate, consult your 'Account Information Email' which you received when you first signed up. In it you will find your assigned shared SSL URL. This SSL URL will be specific to your account. For example: https://ec100.ecosnap.com/~Your_Username
- Private / Custom SSL certificate - $119.95/year (plus a private IP address if you don't already have one)
If your site relies heavily on SSL, a private certificate may be the way to go. With a private certificate, you will be able to encrypt web traffic while keeping your domain name in the address/URL location bar. For example, if your domain is "www.yourdomain.com" you will be able to access your site securely at https://www.yourdomain.com/. This can be preferable over the shared SSL method because visitors will see your domain in the location field as opposed to our shared certificate URL.
In addition to the yearly certificate fee, a private IP address is also required for SSL hosting. We provide dedicated/private IP addresses for an additional $2/month.
If you are interested in obtaining a private SSL certificate, please contact our support or sales team to get started. You may open a ticket from the support page, or simply send an email to support@ecosnap.com
